“I am” – أكون
I think, therefore I am. I am my mind and behaviour. As the great cosmologist Carl Sagan said, I am the universe trying to understand itself. I am 70% ocean like the planet earth of which I am citizen. I am an ecosystem of amino acids, double-helical DNA, and differentiated cells co-existing in harmony and fending off pathogenic invaders like a well fortified city. I am a microcosm of the Cosmos. I am atomic bonding. I am the result of my ancestors being the most intelligent, strongest, and well-suited to their environments amongst their contemporaries. I am all that I feel. I am my sensory receptors transmitting electrical impulses to afferent neurons firing ions through chemical synapses, releasing neurotransmitters, causing the interneurons in my brain to transduce physical sensation.
I am low entropy in the thermodynamically entropic universe. I am in chemical disequilibrium to my surroundings, awaiting equilibrium upon my death. I am energy which is matter, which is a relative fluctuation of space and time. I am subjective consciousness, for reality lies within the beholder. My life goal is to free myself “from this prison by widening our circles of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty” as Einstein said.
I am human.
