My letter on the Woolwich Attack and Islamic Extremism

I was published today in national newspapers regarding the recent horrifying Woolwich attack.

Winnipeg Sun

National Post

London Free Press

Calgary Herald

My letter is as follows:

As a naturalized Canadian citizen who came here when I was 5, whose great-great grandfather was stoned to death by Islamist extremists in Afghanistan, I have felt the pain inflicted by extremists firsthand. But, I must assert that the London beheading committed in the name of Islam had absolutely nothing to do with the faith itself.

In the Qu’ran, it is written that “if you kill one person it is as if you have killed all of humanity” (5:32). Hailing from the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, founded by Mirza Ghulam Ahmad in 1889, we have well over a century been condemning such barbaric violence in the name of Islam and will continue to do so. We hope our fellow Canadians hear us amidst the extremist rabble.
